Employers need more people with higher-level skills. A university degree opens doors to new careers, new friends and a wealth of experiences. Research has shown that people with degrees can earn 50% more over their lifetime than people who get lower qualifications. Our aim is to ensure that higher education (HE), with all the benefits it can bring, is open to anyone with the ability to succeed.
The role of Aimhigher Kent and Medway
Aimhigher Kent and Medway works with partnership schools, further education (FE) colleges and HE institutions to encourage young people to think positively about their future. Aimhigher is starting to have an impact: in Kent and Medway more young people apply for university places every year. All of them are proud of their achievements and know that HE will help them to achieve their dreams. Aimhigher has it's own student magazine, Zoom which is written by students, for students.
What can you do to help your child to aim higher?
- Motivate your child and encourage achievement.
- Inspire your child to do the best for themselves.
- Get them in to a routine for homework and revision.
- Seek out the people who can help your child. This might include Tutors, Learning Mentors, College Careers Advisers or Connexions Personal Advisers.
- Find out what you need to know to help them make decisions about their future. Why not go to a university open day? These are advertised on the university websites.
- Find out what it might cost for your child to go to university. It may be more manageable than you think.
The Aimhigher National Parents and Carers Guide called "Help your child into higher education: parents' guide to higher education" contains lots of useful information about supporting your son or daughter into higher education. There are also other useful guides available on this website.
