The National Bureau for Students with Disabilities is called Skill. It provides very useful information for disabled students and their families. Its website is: http://www.skill.org.uk
The Aimhigher Kent and Medway Partnership has committed to support disabled students:
Aimhigher Kent and Medway partner higher education institutions and colleges will take all reasonable measures to ensure an accessible and supportive environment to students with disabilities provided they are alerted to their needs at least two weeks in advance of their arrival on campus. For summer schools or residential activities, this notice period needs to be at least six to eight weeks, or at the time of application if this is longer. They will provide, where possible, designated ambassador support and pre-prepared materials and make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the needs of individual disabled students, in line with the statutory requirement. Delivering partners are not able to provide individual support for individual students.
The Partnership expects schools to arrange and fund appropriate specialised support for disabled students at AHKM events, both where activities are delivered in school or on an HE campus. FE College students can be funded by the Learning and Skills Council’s Additional Learning Support Fund (ALS).
AHKM partner HEIs and colleges are:
Canterbury Christ Church University
Open University
University for the Creative Arts
University of Greenwich
University of Kent
Canterbury College
Hadlow College
Mid-Kent College
North West Kent College
South Kent College
