Some larger companies are willing to sponsor students through university or college in exchange for a future work commitment. This type of funding is not widely advertised so it may be necessary to do a considerable amount of research to find out what is on offer. Sponsorships are most often given to students on vocational courses such as engineering, construction or business. Competition for places is usually high.
Students who have successfully held down jobs prior to going to university (either full or part-time) could ask their employer if they would be willing to sponsor them during their time at university.
Industry Awards
A student attending university or college can be entered for an industry award by their lecturer. These awards are intended to raise the status of certain courses, such as science, engineering and technological degrees. Successful students can receive a trophy and a cheque. The amount differs from award to award.
